Date: 8th - 11th October
Venue: Animal Research Complex
Advanced Medical and Dental Institute,
Universiti Sains Malaysia, Bertam
13200 Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang
Our second hands-on, laboratory-based workshop will provide an overview and the experience needed to work with the latest genome editing tool, CRISPR. The workshop will include lectures on the basics of CRISPR experiments, and a discussion session, which will be helpful to anyone who is interested in working on this cutting-edge technology. Participants will learn about different CRISPR systems, including how to knock out, upregulate and make base edits to genes. During the workshop, participants will learn how to design CRISPR targeting their gene of interest, and conduct downstream experiments crucial in determining the efficacy of this tool. Each participant will have the hands-on opportunity to knockout a gene in a mammalian cell line using CRISPR, and perform various validation assays to evaluate the effect of their CRISPR. The experience gained at this workshop will enable participants to independently plan future experiments utilizing CRISPR. Participants will also have plenty of one-on-one discussion sessions with the facilitators to ensure that all of their questions are answered. This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in genome editing.
Objectives of the workshop:
Choosing the suitable CRISPR backbone for your experiment.
Designing guide RNAs specific to your gene of interest.
Applying bioinformatics to increase specificity of your genome editing.
Cloning CRISPR and validation of clones.
Understanding various assays to detecting successful genome manipulation.
Testing the efficacy of CRISPR to up or downregulate genes in mammalian cell culture.
Collaboration:
This workshop is always a huge success thanks to our many sponsors. Most of them have a thorough genome editing workflow and will be happy to assist you with your CRISPR work. We are also happy to collaborate with you on your future CRISPR projects.
